ChickTech 2018-19 - Apply in SeptemberChickTech is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging more girls and women to pursue technology related careers through hands-on events.
ChickTech: High School is a free year long program that introduces 100 high school girls to technology. The program kicks off with a 2-day event on Dec 1st and 2nd at Meredith College and then continues with monthly workshops around different careers, technologies, and companies. Our program provides a fun, positive learning experience designed to build participants’ confidence in their technical abilities, give them positive role models, create connections with other young women from the RDU area, and create a positive association with technology creation.
We expect that most of our participants have never had a chance to do anything like what we are offering. Our goal is to reach the girls who would make great technologists, engineers, programmers, or computer scientists; but because of stereotypes or a lack of opportunity, may not realize it until they are already doing something else. We also strive to show the relevance of each workshop to their lives–and help them to understand that they have the ability to transform the technology industry! As an added bonus the girls get to take home their technology project.
We are especially interested in students who:
- Have not participated in the event last year and have not taken many computer science courses, done many technology projects, or technology camp before due to lack of interest and/or financial resources
- Typically would not consider a tech career
- Display an above-average aptitude for math or science, along with a creativity and willingness to learn new things
- Will be in 9th-12th grade as of November 2018
- Identify as female
Nominations will open in mid September. Please see Ms. Barone in room 2203 if you would like to be nominated. For more information: https://raleigh-durham.chicktech.org/high-school/high-school-faq/
